How we support Adoptive Families through the process:
Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) believes in the importance of preparing a family for a voluntary adoption. We do this by offering a comprehensive adoption information meeting, conducting a thorough family assessment where information is mutually shared, and providing an adoption seminar once your study has been approved. These various types of exchanges give families the opportunity to hear helpful information and allows them to ask pertinent questions.
We also provide support in the way of counseling. We conduct a parent interview following the informational meeting to begin understanding what brings the family to adoption. We take it further by helping the family to see whether they are ready to love and accept a child who was not born to them. Once this decision has been made, we help the family to move through the family assessment process. Once this assessment is approved, we show the waiting family’s profiles to birth mothers seeking an adoption plan. We will be present for the match meeting, and we will be present during the birth of the child. Families will sign adoption paperwork with the agency and will be informed of the legal details along the way.
