Our training programs and experienced staff are here to guide you every step of the way. We have taken great care in selecting each one of our adoption specialists and program directors to ensure a thoughtful, caring experience for all parties involved. We also train each of our staff with PCHAS mission and values and keep everyone apprised of the latest adoption policies and legal process for the state of Texas at all times so that staff have the most accurate information to provide to birth parents and adoptive families.
Austin Adoption Specialist: Colleen Howery
Colleen has been working for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) since November 2015. PCHAS is strength-based and promotes self-determination which is why Colleen loves being a part of the PCHAS team. She appreciates the fact that PCHAS facilitates open, voluntary adoption because it has many advantages for the adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive families.Colleen gained invaluable experience at her internship working with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas. She also completed an internship with the Family-Based Safety Services department of Child Protective Services. In addition, she worked as a teaching assistant at the Hyde Park Baptist Church Child Development Center as an undergraduate.
Colleen graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from Texas State University. She also graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and a minor in psychology from Texas State University. Colleen aspires to earn a Ph.D. in Social Work in the near future. Her interests include arts and crafts, running, traveling, photography, and research.
Houston Adoption Specialist: Kelsey Wolk
Kelsey Wolk, LMSW is an Adoption Specialist for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) in the Houston area. She also serves as the Maternity/Adoption Services Coordinator where she coordinates the voluntary adoption program statewide. Kelsey is one of our experienced staff who is ready to serve birth parents and adoptive families to make the process a seamless and caring one.As a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Kelsey has experience working with at risk-children children, parents, and families in the community mental health setting. She has experience in the areas of mental health, behavioral health, autism, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. Kelsey enjoys helping each party of the adoption triad (adoptee, birth parents, and adoptive parents) through every stage of the process from communication to working together to maintaining a sustainable relationship for the long term.
Kelsey earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Dallas/Ft. Worth and Corsicana Adoption Specialist: Kiara Cabrera
Kiara Cabrera serves as an Adoption Specialist for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) in the Waxahachie/Dallas area. Kiara earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas A&M University-Commerce.Before joining PCHAS, she gained meaningful experience serving as an intern at the Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC). There she worked with youth aging out of foster care and found her passion for work in adoption services. She also spent time at Communities in Schools helping students and their families with difficult transitions.
Some of the things Kiara values most about PCHAS is the hard work and dedication of the staff to serve children and families in need. In her spare time, Kiara enjoys spending time with her family and travelling to new places.
Wichita Falls Adoption Specialist: Tammie Durham
Tammie Durham is an Adoption Specialist for Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) in the Wichita Falls area. She came to PCHAS after serving as an Adoption Specialist for Child Protective Services (CPS). With more than ten years of experience in child welfare and adoption, Tammie is well-versed in the legal process of adoption and has a genuine passion for helping children and birth parents, as well as adoptive families.Tammie earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. During her time as an adoption specialist for CPS, she worked with children whose rights were terminated and successfully completed the adoption process for many adoptive families. She has worked closely with attorneys to complete the adoption paperwork for the court and for the subsidy process. Tammie finds her work incredibly rewarding. Helping children to find forever homes while helping birth parents and adoptive families come together warms her heart.
In her spare time, Tammie also works in the nursery at her church. She enjoys working in the Adoption Services Program for PCHAS and is ready to serve birth parents and adoptive families to make the process a seamless and caring one.
