Co-hosted by Juliette Fowler Communities and Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS), the #BirthMomStrong luncheon in Dallas/Fort Worth took place on Wednesday, September 21 at noon. The event celebrated the #BirthMomStrong campaign and PCHAS’ expanded adoption services. PCHAS and Juliette Fowler joined forces to share support for maternity clients, prospective birth parents and adoptive families in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The luncheon took place at the Fowler Christian Apartments III in Dallas.
PCHAS Regional Director and Statewide Coordinator of Church Engagement Scott Waller shared a heartfelt prayer to kick off the celebration. The audience then heard from Ann McKinley, Executive Director of Mission Advancement at Juliette Fowler Communities, about the ways in which Juliette Fowler Communities is excited to support PCHAS’ adoption services team.
Juliette Fowler Communities has deep roots in Dallas having served the community since 1892. The organization will be extending financial support, volunteers and sharing locations to help PCHAS reach more maternity clients, birth moms and prospective adoptive families across the state. Supporting women, families and children in need since 1892, Juliette Fowler’s mission and vision aligns very well with Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services’ (PCHAS) mission to provide Christ-centered support to those in need.
PCHAS Adoptive Family Thomas and Carrissa Cassatt were featured guest speakers at the luncheon. They kindly shared their personal adoption story. Carrissa was adopted and also, with Thomas, adopted children of their own. Thomas joked how he was the “odd man out” not being adopted in their family! They shared stories of their loving family and their perspective on openness in adoption. They alsoexpressed their feelings about the importance of being “transparent” about adoption with their adopted children at a young age. Carrissa shared the ways in which PCHAS’ staff made their adoption journey a smooth one.
Last but not least, the audience also got a closer look into the process behind working with maternity clients, prospective birth moms and adoptive families from a PCHAS’ Adoption Specialist’s perspective. Dallas/Fort Worth Program Director Leah Gilliam shared her real-life experience with birth moms and the process of adoption. She also expressed the fear that most women in difficult circumstances have when reaching out to an organization for help or to be heard. Leah and the team at PCHAS know firsthand the importance of making a maternity client aware that PCHAS provides a judgment-free zone. She stressed that it is the maternity client’s choice whether or not to create an adoption plan for her child. PCHAS adoption program staff and Dallas/Fort Worth’s newest, bilingual Adoption Specialist Kiara Cabrera explores all options available to her maternity client before she makes a decision. Kiara continued with Leah’s presentation and shared her passion for helping those in need in Dallas/Fort Worth and the surrounding area.
Representatives from pregnancy resource centers/maternity clinics, family services organizations, local churches and pastors attended the luncheon to learn more about PCHAS’ adoption services. We had an excellent turnout and also heard more about the ways other organizations’ staff are helping women across the city make adoption plans for their child. The PCHAS adoption team in Dallas/Fort Worth looks forward to working with our colleagues in the field to assist women with one of the most important decisions a parent can make.
We want to thank all of the speakers and those who came out to the event, as well as Juliette Fowler Communities’ volunteers and staff. Juliette Fowler Communities and PCHAS are proud to help make Texas #birthmomstrong through PCHAS adoption services for maternity clients, prospective birth parents and adoptive families!
