We had a very successful kick-off event to our #BirthMomStrong campaign last week on Wednesday, August 3 at Chez Zee American Bistro. Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (PCHAS) President and CEO Ed Knight started off the event sharing the PCHAS mission of Christ-centered care for maternity clients, birth parents, adoptive families and children across the state. We then heard from Central Region Vice President of Adoption Services Celeste Ross who expanded on our campaign for birth mothers and PCHAS’ approach to adoption including our continuum of care and making openness a priority. This campaign is truly about serving birth parents and adoptive families without judgment with the help of adoption specialists across Texas. PCHAS adoption services expansion across the state will allow more birth parents, adoptive families and children to be given the chance for a sustainable, loving family.
Central Region Director Pam Crawford also shared her personal story. As an adopted child who grew her own family with adoption and recently met her birth mother after several years, Pam shared her passion for PCHAS. She also touched on why the work of our adoption specialists is so important. Austin Program Director Adam Crawford also expanded on the plans PCHAS has to serve clients in Austin and the surrounding area. He shared the great work of the team and highlighted our newest adoption specialist Colleen Howery.
As an adoption and maternity specialist, Colleen is the first person a prospective birth mom and/or adoptive family would call to inquire. Her role is vital to PCHAS as she is the counselor who helps with the adoption process every step of the way. Since joining PCHAS earlier this year, Colleen has already been able to help a maternity client with her decision to place a child with a loving family here in Austin. She shared her passion for her work having spent several years in social work. Learn more about Colleen here.
We had an excellent turnout from luncheon guests with attendees from nearby pregnancy centers, churches and maternity clinics in Austin and the surrounding area. We were lucky to hear more about the ways they are helping women across the city make birth plans for their child. The PCHAS adoption team in Austin looks forward to working with our neighbors in the field to assist women with one of the most important decisions a parent can make.
We want to thank all of the speakers and those who came out to the event, as well as the Chez Zee staff. See below for pictures from our Austin luncheon.
But that’s not all! As you’ve heard, PCHAS has expanded to new markets across the state. We will be hosting additional meet and greet events in our other markets Wichita Falls, Dallas and Houston. Our next event will take place Thursday, August 25 in Wichita Falls. The Wichita Falls adoption services team is excited to share their services with you!
